ISABEL

Project title:

Intelligent Software for Aerosol typing Based on Earth observation products, remote sensing measurements and transport modelLing

General description:

The general goal of this project is to increase the Romanian scientific contributions to ESA’s EOEP-4 CAL-VAL activities in support of Sentinels (3, 4, 5 and 5P), EarthCARE and ADM-Aeolus missions. This will be done by the development a new intelligent aerosol typing software based on neural networks and combining the aerosols measurements, synthetic aerosols and transport modelling. ISABEL software design is focused on exploitation the complementary capabilities offered by in situ monitors, remote sensing, satellite, aerosols transport modelling and neural networks methods in order to improve the aerosols typing algorithms and to define a common aerosols classification scheme based on their hygroscopicity and optical properties.

Duration of the project:

  • 2017-2019

Funding:

  • Romanian Space Agency – STAR Programme – Earth Observation

Partners:

  • Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania (CO)
  • INOE 2000 – N. I. of R&D for Optoelectronics, M?gurele, Romania (P1)
  • POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest (P2)

Results:

  • Database with main aerosol types and their properties;
  • Neural networks used for classification of aerosols – architecture and list of input parameters;
  • A new intelligent aerosol typing software;
