Sustainable Development and Environmental Management

The MSc in Sustainable Development and Environmental Management is a 2 year full-time program, taught in English, in the field of Environmental Engineering.

This Master’s programme aims to train future change-makers and leaders who are able to understand the integrated nature of the environmental subjects and to put into practice a number of methods and techniques for environmental management, in order to develop a sustainable human society.

The program provides, in particular, the opportunity for students to learn and apply: knowledge and techniques needed to develop and implement environmental policies in order to achieve sustainable development; analytical thinking that leads to environmental decisions; interactions between science, politics and policy, society, economy and environment; specific case studies for Romania and other European countries.

Practical work experience in the form of field visits and industrial visits are a key component of this curriculum.

Course contents:

The programme structure offers a good balance between theoretical knowledge transfer and practical skill acquisition, introducing a wide range of topics related to sustainable development:

SEMESTER 1

  • Fundamentals of sustainable development 5 ECTS
  • Integrated environmental management systems 6 ECTS
  • GIS analysis for environmental studies 5 ECTS
  • Risk assessment and management of hazardous chemical substances 6 ECTS
  • Fire and explosion risk assessment 6 ECTS
  • Professional practice no. 1 (170 hours) 2 ECTS

SEMESTER 2

  • Environmental legislation and politics at international level 6 ECTS
  • Global climate changes 6 ECTS
  • Integrated management of water resources and wastewater treatment procedures 5 ECTS
  • Integrated management of natural and technological risks 5 ECTS

SEMESTER 3

  • Energetic resources and the environment 5 ECTS

  • Modeling and simulation of chemical accidents
  • Assessment and analysis procedures in ecological management

Optional course 2:

  • Dosimetry techniques for environmental studies and radiation protection concepts

  • Population protection against supertoxic chemical agents
  • Specific communication strategies

Career prospects:

Students will have a wide field of employment options in the private, public and semi-public sector or she/he may choose an academic career by continuing with PhD-studies in a relevant field.
